Assistant Controller – Detroit-Metro

Our client, a profitable automotive manufacturing and engineering firm, has asked us to locate an Assistant Controller for their corporate headquarters in the Detroit-Metro region.

They are looking for a motivated, energetic professional to help guide the accounting department of a company that has consistently turned a profit for nearly 20 years and which has earned record profits in the past 5 years. This role, which reports directly to the VP of Finance, is responsible for oversight of the company’s general accounting functions, including financial statements, general ledger, payables/receivables, tax returns, and month-end and year-end closing and reviews. The accounting department is not large and there is frequent and direct exposure to senior management, the board of directors, and CFO.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with monthly closing requirements, including preparation of financial statements.
  • Analyze financial information related to customer projects and computation of monthly revenues.
  • Responsible for overseeing accounting procedures, internal controls (implementing, monitoring, enhancing), and database management.
  • Oversee payables, receivables, billing, invoicing, and vendor relationships.
  • Assist in the development of budgets, cash flows, and forecasts.
  • Assist with yearly audit preparation.
  • Assist in compilation of Federal, State, and Benefit tax returns.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting department staff.
  • Provide timely and accurate information to internal customers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years experience with financial reporting, reconciliation, cash flow forecasting, general ledger, accounts receivable, job costing and corporate taxation.
  • CPA and public accounting experience highly preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Experience with a variety of accounting software packages (i.e. Solomon, Crystal Reports, SQL database, etc.)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
