A solid, CMI certified tax professional with over ten years of experience providing property tax and sales/use tax compliance, audit, and appeals services to multinational Fortune 500 corporations and large private companies in diverse industries (including manufacturing, health care, financial services, waste services, retail, communications, and hospitality).

  • Extensive expertise in managing all facets of real and personal property taxes including return preparation (for companies with more than 10,000 tax returns annually), appeal analysis, accrual entries, consultant management, and payment administration (for companies with over $50M in tax payments annually). Skilled at providing clear and concise advice on filing positions and tax reduction strategies.
  • Track record of success in bringing the property tax function, especially the real estate appeals process, in house. Key Accomplishments

  • Leveraged knowledge of PeopleSoft’s revaluation and translation process to resolve an issue with the Office of Tax Counsel’s calculation of a foreign currency adjustment to their tax deferred assets valuation allowance, which was based solely on a rough estimate and included a $90M prior year accounting error. Presented findings and corrective action to the Audit Committee and developed a PeopleSoft query and procedure to determine the exact quarterly adjustment so that the department would no longer need to rely on estimates.
  • Transitioned tax service initiation work previously contracted to an outside CPA firm to a low cost shared services center in order to have sufficient resources to conduct regular payroll audits. In the first month of implementation, identified an employee overpaid by $92K over an 18-month period, the recovery of which represented an immediate 84% return on investment. In addition, using the shared services center saved over $90K a year in professional fees and significantly improved accuracy and internal controls.
