Key Accomplishments:

  • Reduced average daily variance of cash disbursement forecasts from $184M to $51M by utilizing the Six Sigma DMAIC Method (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) to identify physical drivers of cash flow and root causes of variation, and to develop a forecasting model based on physicals that increased the accuracy of the forecast. This in turn ensured the Treasury department did not miss out on long-term investment opportunities or resort to selling at less than competitive rates to gain access to immediate cash.
  • Eliminated sizable “paper” losses (including errors in Accounts Payable that overstated expenses) by reviewing every line item of the financial statements and tracing inventory through the accounting system from purchase to receipt, payment, sale, and receipt of cash. Within one year, instead of the company’s consistent annual net losses of over $2.5M, the company showed a modest net income on a regular basis.
